Let’s talk about wedding invitations!  I mean, that’s literally what I do all day.  Seriously!

Once the excitement of your engagement wears down, you’re ready to get planning — and you quickly book your venue, florist, caterer and photographer.  Your stationer is often the last booked vendor, and I can easily understand why.  Stationery isn’t thought about until the ten to twelve month mark.  By this point, you’ve spent a lot of your budget and you may be considering ways to slim it down or worse, cut your budget all together.  To save money, you might even consider sending out electronic invitations or ordering a cheap printable invitation off of Etsy, but I’m going to tell you why that’s a bad idea.  Why?  Because it’s literally one of the most important components of your day.  How else will anyone know when you’re getting married and where to be?  How else will you know your guest count and what meals you’ll be serving?

 

THE INVITATION SETS THE

TONE FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT

Have you ever received an invitation in the mail and been able to envision the couples wedding day?  If you answered no, then chances are you’ve never received an invitation that properly set the tone.  The wedding invitation is the first glimpse into the big day —  A ballroom wedding reception deserves an invitation that’s letterpressed or foiled.  A simple, elegant wedding should have a simple, delicate invitation to reflect this theme.  A double thick invitation with letterpress and hand tied ribbon would certainly tell you that you should arrive in formal attire, while a simpler invitation with a coastal theme might indicate that a sun dress is appropriate.

Have you ever been on the receiving end of getting an invitation on the mail and felt that initial feeling of excitement and anticipation?  When you put thought, detail and attention into your wedding invitations, you undoubtedly create that feeling — a fun-filled evening should have guests jumping with excitement whereas a destination wedding should have people smiling as they fantasize about beach cocktails and parties.

My favorite part of the design process!  The invitation should always reflect your love story and who you are as a couple.  I am so passionate about weaving your love story and personal details in your paper goods, and adore chatting with my brides over coffee (or on the phone!) about how they met their fiance, where they got engaged, and how they picked out their china pattern.  If the idea of incorporating your great-grandmother’s antique china, a modern gallery wall, and a vintage kilim rug into your home make you smile, you just might be a #blushbride.

Gone are the days of throwing invitations in the trash.  When your invites are a work of art, everyone will be keeping them for years to come.  We’re creating heirloom keepsakes, not just pieces of paper, and we’re creating precious memories.  Believe me when I say you’ll treasure your invitations forever.

Most of my couples want to incorporate a wedding monogram or crest into their stationery, which instantly creates an heirloom their family can cherish.  Other couples like to incorporate venue sketches into their stationery that they later frame and hang in their homes.  Their stationery becomes an integral part of their home lives which is a beautiful way to marry their wedding stationery with their every-day-life.  These pieces can be repurposed and passed down through generations to come, and re-used on personal stationery, embroidery and future wedding stationery.
