What do you do with your wedding invitations after the big day is over?: 5 Ways to Preserve Your Wedding Invitation

October 20, 2020

Your wedding invitation is one of the true tangible goods from your wedding day.  Long after the flowers have wilted, the cake has been eaten, and the music has played, you’re left with your vow books and your heirloom wedding invitations reminding you of all the memories of one of the most special days of your life.

A true keepsake, finding a way to display your wedding invitations rather than throwing it in a drawer is an absolute must.  There are so many fun and unique ways to use your wedding invitation once the day has passed!  I turned a jewel from our wedding invitations into a Christmas ornament, and it’s so heart-warming to pull the ornament out year after year.

Frame or Shadowbox

The quickest and easiest way to display your invitation after the big day is by framing it, or creating a shadow box!  I love the simplicity of putting your wedding day paper good in a gorgeous frame that matching your home decor and hanging it somewhere that you’ll see daily.  Hang it in your bedroom so it’s one of the first things you’ll see when you wake up, or in a common area in your home so it’s a conversation starter.

If you want to pair it with some other wedding day details, like your garter and photographs, consider creating a shadow box.  You can include other things like dried flowers from your wedding bouquet and the cork from the champagne bottle.  There’s certainly no shortage of ideas on Pinterest!

Turn it Into a Pillow

These gorgeous handpainted pillows by Abby Kate are true works of art, and will be treasured in your home for years to come.  Turn your wedding invitation to a keepsake pillow and display it in your living room or bedroom.  Having your invitation on a handmade pillow is both a great way to decorate and keep your design alive!

Christmas Ornament

Have a merry first Christmas as as a married couple by transforming your invitation into an ornament.

What You’ll Need:

  • Large Globe Ornament
  • Wedding Invitation
  • Ribbon
  • Glitter
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Scissors
  • Pen

Start by cutting the invitation into strips that are 1/4″ wide. Then, wrap the strips around a pen to curl. Insert each strip of paper into the globe. Shake your ornament throughout this process to make room for additional paper. Sprinkle glitter inside the bulb for a little sparkle! Place the top back on the globe. Use the ribbon to tie a bow through the top et voilà! A very special addition to your holiday décor.

Keepsake Box

Use Bazaar Glass LLC to create a glass wedding invitation keep sake box.  Use the lid to preserve the invitation so it’s seen from the outside, and the inside to display maps, reception cards or even photos.  This is a unique and permanent display of your wedding keepsakes, and a gorgeous conversation piece.

Engraved Tray

Turn your invitation into an engraved sterling silver wedding invitation tray.  Display this one of a kind memento in your dining room or kitchen for years to come.  This gorgeous heirloom can be passed down to your children one day!
