The design process can be so exiting! One incredibly important step (that can sometimes be overlooked!) is the proofing process. It can be easy to miss a small detail, a misspelling, or an extra space if you aren’t checking carefully. It happens, but can be easily avoided if you follow these steps.
Here are a few tips for proofreading your wedding invitations to ensure they are picture-perfect before going to print.
1/ ASK FOR HELP
Have your fiancé, mom, wedding planner, and a trusted friend look over the proofs. Calling for back up is totally crucial – you’ve been staring at the invitation design so closely that it starts to look familiar and the words begin to blend together. Someone who hasn’t seen the invitation yet can really provide new insight. It’s a good idea to get a fresh set of eyes to review everything before you give the final approval!
2/ TEST YOUR WEBSITE LINKS
A lot of couples refer guests to their wedding website for more information. Make sure the web address is correct before you give the A-OK on your details card. Type the link you have into your browser to make sure it’s correct, and add or remove any prefixes as necessary.
3/ READ BACKWARDS
This sounds really silly, but READ IT BACKWARDS! Sometimes, when we’re reading words in order it can be more difficult to notice a spelling mistake. Our brains “autocorrect” and might skip a mistake because the words make sense together. By reading backwards you are isolating each word and are more likely to identify an error.
