You’re so excited to be engaged, you’re diving into planning your wedding, and now it’s time to book your wedding photographer! Super exciting! While you’re meeting with them, you’re asked if you may be interested in taking engagement photos (or, e-pics). You may be unsure about shooting engagement photos, but from a photographer’s perspective, they can be one of the best wedding investments you make! Why? There’s a few big reasons:
Get to know your photographer:
Your wedding photographer will be with you from the time you put on your wedding dress through the reception dancing on your wedding day. It’s a full day investment, and you want to make sure you know who exactly will be spending one of the most important days of your life with you! Getting together for engagement photos is a great way to get to better know your wedding photographer. Do you have a great relationship? Are you able to joke around together? Do they “get” you? All of these things are really important in creating absolutely beautiful wedding images. You’ll be more willing to show yourself and your wedding dreams with someone you really trust.
Get out the jitters:
Engagement photos are a great way to also get out the “we’re sooooo un-photogenic” jitters. Most of my clients tell me that they are un-photogenic, and if you looked through my portfolio, you’ll probably not be able to tell who that might be! Give yourself more credit, but if you can’t, shooting engagement photos is a great way to get out the photography jitters. For those of you who are uncomfortable in front of the camera, shooting a relaxed portrait session will help you to feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Get the jitters out, so that on the wedding day you’re calm and relaxed.
Get to know what you love and what you hate:
Let’s face it, we all have insecurities. Some of us are afraid of our noses, weight, the list goes on and on. Once you receive your engagement photos back from your photographer, you’ll get a good idea of what you love and what you hate. Do you hate profile shots? Are you in love with that natural laughing photo? Tell your wedding photographer, so that they can best understand what will make you even happier on your wedding day, and you’ll love your wedding photos more.
Get photos in your normal clothes:
You will be spending your entire wedding day in your dress and tuxedo. Your wedding photos will be gorgeous, but why not have some photos of you and your fiance in your “normal” clothes, still looking super cute and in love? You’ll be able to look back on your engagement photos and feel all of the love and excitement that surrounded the building up to your wedding day.
If you’ve been going back and forth over whether or not to shoot engagement pictures, seriously consider it! You’ll get to know your photographer, get out your jitters, learn what you love and hate in photos, and grow closer to your fiance before the wedding day even arrives!
