Hooray, it’s time for another Meet the BLUSHing bride blog series, and I’m thrilled to introduce you to Heather!
Enjoy getting to know these two & seeing a few favorite engagement pictures from Leeann Marie Photography
Your Name: Heather Maxfield
Your Sweetheart’s Name: Jason Ashworth
How’d you meet? We met in December of 2012 at a happy hour I was at with some co-workers. One of my co-workers was meeting some of his friends after our happy hour at the same bar, the Steel Cactus in the Shadyside area of Pittsburgh. I was having a little too much fun at the happy hour and stayed long enough for the happy hour to disband and my co-workers’ friends to show up, including Jason!
Although we were in a decently sized group, I do remember specifically talking to Jason about sports (we’re both huge sports fans). He attempted to impress me with being a Steeler’s season ticket holder but being originally from Indianapolis, and as a dedicated and thoroughly committed Colts fan, I was pretty unimpressed and I let him know it! I guess he kind of liked that though, because shortly thereafter we were comparing notes on our teams and playfully checking out each other’s social media accounts. As any true modern romance starts, we started following each other on Twitter that night.
And then we didn’t talk or see each other for over two years.
Strangely enough, two years later, I was out with that same mutual friend (and now former co-worker), when he mentioned that he thought Jason and I would make a good match. It had been so long since I’d seen him. Our only contact point was just being Twitter friends! But I never forgot about hitting it off that night in December 2012 – and neither did he.
Our friend agreed to upgrade us from online acquaintances to an in-person date and the rest is history!
Fill in the blank: We go together like Road Trips and Playlists!
How did you get engaged? Were you surprised?
Jason picked me up from a night out with some of my friends and I noticed Jason was lagging behind me as we came into the house. As I started up the basement stairs to our living room, he stopped at the bottom of the stairs behind me and wasn’t following me. I turned to him to ask why but he became very serious and asked that I just keep on walking!
When I opened the door to our living room, more roses than I could count were waiting for me in our living room, along with the ring on our coffee table. He got down on one knee to propose and I said “yes!” without a second thought.
It was low-key and intimate, very much our style.
When and Where are you getting married? October 14, 2017 at The Omni William Penn Hotel
What made you decide on that time of year & location? The Omni is my favorite hotel and venue in Pittsburgh. It’s so romantic, historic, and naturally beautiful….we knew it was definitely our dream wedding venue once we did our tour! Jason and I both love the Fall (hello mild weather and football!) and were beyond thrilled the venue had availability during our favorite season.
Describe your wedding in three words: Fun as heck
Now, tell me more! Theme? Colors? Must haves?
Our wedding color palette is blush pinks, white, gold, and a deep marsala color – perfect for Fall. Marsala seemed like the perfect vintage color to go with the natural gold gilding and accents of our venue at The Omni. Must haves: a fun day to remember with each other and the people we love most!
What’s your favorite source of wedding inspiration? (Blog, Magazine, etc.)?
Our venue, The Omni, has been inspiring (can you tell I really love this place or no?). We don’t have to do much to make it beautiful! Other inspiration has come from Pinterest, Instagram, and various wedding magazines.
What have you loved the most about planning your wedding?
Planning a wedding as a bride/groom is truly one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. It’s all so new, but it’s so fun to think about marrying my soulmate and then having a big party with all of our family & friends afterwards to celebrate!
What had been the most difficult about planning your wedding?
This one is hard to answer – Planning has genuinely been fun! We’re both Supply Chain majors so quickly and efficiently planning, working with vendors, and figuring out logistics came as second nature. We had most things booked and a basic plan and budget laid out within a few weeks of being engaged. If I had to choose, I’d say sometimes I tend to over-analyze some of the small details.
What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day, besides getting married?!
Really hard to top marrying the love of my life! But I’m just looking forward to eating, drinking, and being merry with Jason and our favorite people.
Are you taking a honeymoon? Where are you going?!
Yes! In February 2018 we’re going to Mexico. Viva!
Why is marriage so important to you two? What are you most excited for or nervous about?
We love each other so much and marriage enters us into a lifetime bond that we are eager to be a part of. We both can’t wait to live in that special unity with one another.
We’re most excited to grow together as a husband & wife team. Marriage doesn’t make us nervous, but we are both a little nervous for our wedding day – and not because we have cold feet! Neither of us enjoy the spotlight, so being in the spotlight for an entire day feels daunting.
Do you have any advice for a newly engaged couple?
Stay organized, give yourself enough time, and remember the beautiful reason why it’s all happening.
What’s up next for you two?! After the “I Do’s” what exciting things do you have in store?
We can’t wait to do some more traveling and to spend our first Christmas together! Since my parents live in Florida and his live in Pennsylvania, the only holiday we’ve never been together on is Christmas. Looking forward to beginning our own tradition this year for the holidays!
